Smile For
Life Day, is a national celebration of good oral health sponsored
by Crest Healthy Smiles in October.
It is one
of the many joint initiatives between Boys & Girls
Clubs of America and Crest Healthy Smiles designed to
provide Club members with oral health education and tools as
well as increased access to dental professionals. The partnership
is in response to a 2000 oral health report by the Surgeon
General stating that dental decay is at an epidemic level,
especially
among
children in underserved communities.
Club members who attend Smile For Life Day will participate in a
variety of fun activities to educate them about the importance
of good oral health and may include:
- Free dental
screenings by dentists the Crest Smile Shoppe.
- Participate in oral hygiene workshops to learn proper brushing techniques and healthy snacking.
- Participate
in games and activities taken from the Cavity-Free Zone
curriculum program. This is a turn-key program created
by Boys & Girls Clubs of America and CHS which has
age-specific activities to help children learn how to develop
and maintain healthy oral habits.
